COVID-19 policy

Our Safety protocols

We take the risk of COVID-19 transmission very seriously and are taking precautional measures for your health and well-being. Please read our guidance to make your visit as stress-free as possible.

  • Please follow directional signs throughout the museum to maintain safe distances between other visitors and staff.
  • Please comply with coughing and sneezing etiquette, wearing masks and washing hands. Visitors who do not wear masks will not be able to enter.
  • We will take your temperature with a thermal camera.
    *If you have a fever over 37.5 degrees, you and your companion may be asked to refrain from entering the museum.
  • Those who fall under the following categories should refrain from visiting.
    • If you or someone close to you has visited a country or region where the COVID-19 has continued to spread within the past two weeks.
    • 37. If you have a fever over 37.5°C, cough, sore throat, etc. (in addition to fever, cough, dyspnea, general malaise, sore throat, nasal discharge/nasal mucus, taste/olfaction disorder, eye pain and conjunctival congestion, headache, joint/muscle pain, diarrhea, nausea/vomit).

Efforts within the facility

  • Hand sanitizer is now available at the entrance.
  • Plastic partitions are installed in front of the reception to prevent droplet/air infection.
  • The staff will wear a mask, face shield and gloves to guide you. The staff will often wash/disinfect their hands, and will not work if they have a cold or fever.
  • While maintaining an appropriate temperature and humidity inside the facility, we will regularly ventilate the rooms. And disinfect and clean places where people often touch.
  • Prohibit the use of the hand dryer that is installed in the toilet.
  • Entrance may be restricted to avoid congestion in the facility.
  • Please refrain from making inquiries by phone as much as possible, as we are operating with minimum staff.

Exhibition Tickets

  • There is limit the number of visitors for each time zone. There is no limit to stay in the museum.
  • You can apply for a ticket until 30 minutes before each slot ends. However, we will close each slot when the limit is reached.

About the Architectural Model Storage Visit + WHAT ticket

  • You can enter WHAT from one hour before the Architectural Model Storage Visit starts (11:30 visits are from 11:00).
  • Notes on Architectural Model Storage Visit
    You must register at the reception desk on the first floor of WHAT before the Architectural Model Storage Visit starts. You will not be able to participate in the Architectural Model Storage Visit if you have not registered at the reception.
    Please gather in the designated area at least 5 minutes before the starting time of the Visit (the designated area will be announced at the reception on the day).
    You will not be able to participate if you miss the starting time of the Visit. So please make sure you register beforehand.
  • We will take your temperature with a thermal camera.
    *If you have a fever over 37.5 degrees, you and your companion may be asked to refrain from entering the museum.
  • Please be sure to read the following notes.

Notes

  • This ticket is valid for 1 person, one-time entry to this exhibition.
  • Elementary School Students & Younger, Invitation letter or ticket from the museum, and disabled people with a disability certificate and an assistant (up to one person) can enter for free, however, please make a reservation with in the time frame.
  • If you have an Invitation letter or ticket from the museum, please present it when entering.
  • Students must present their student ID card or other proof of age when entering.
  • If you have a Disabled Person’s Booklet or an equivalent form of government-issued ID, please present it when entering.
  • Please note that you cannot re-enter.
  • Refund is only possible if you are in a poor physical condition. Please note that we cannot give refunds for other reasons.
  • Please note that admission may be restricted if the number of participants exceeds the capacity of the museum.

    If a national holiday falls on a Monday the museum will be open, and Tuesday will be closed instead.
  • The museum shop closes 30 minutes before closing time.

Visitors with small children

You can leave your buggies at the reception.
Bathrooms are fitted with baby changing facilities.

 

Controlled Temperature and humidity

We try to maintain the optimal temperature and relative humidity for the preservation of our architectural models. Because the temperature within our museum might feel cold compared to the weather outside, we recommend bringing an extra piece of clothing to keep warm while visiting us.

About barrier-free

A wheelchair-accessible elevator is installed. The door to the outside is an automatic door. The entrance to the outside has a slope that is easier for wheelchair users to pass through.

We have prepared a free audio guide to make the exhibition even more enjoyable. You can use your smartphone as an audio guide by scanning the QR code installed in the building. For details, please check at the reception on the day.
* Earphones are used to listen to the audio guide. If you have forgotten it, please let us know as it is sold at the reception.
